The Client

The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) is Australia’s lead management agency for the Great Barrier Reef. Protecting and managing one of the world’s most iconic natural beauties comes with many challenges, with climate change, coastal development and illegal fishing practices all presenting active threats to Reef health.

The Challenge

The Marine Park Authority sought an eye-catching way to express their work in assessing coral bleaching events with the public. With climate change a touchy subject these days, our client needed something innovative to grab attention and hold it.

Ravel's Solution

It was decided early on that a high-end 3D visualisation was the only way to do the Great Barrier Reef justice. Environments were built using Unreal Engine 5, with the sprawling reef ecosystems taking advantage of its ‘Nanite’ technology. Rather than sticking to simple narration, Ravel filmed GBRPMA representatives on greenscreen. The footage was composited back into Unreal Engine and integrated into the 3D scenes.
