Get Ready Challenge Web App

The Client

Get Ready Queensland is part of the Queensland Government’s Queensland Reconstruction Authority. The Get Ready Queensland program helps communities throughout Queensland prepare for natural disasters, making Queensland the most disaster resilient state in Australia.

Ravel has been working with the Queensland Reconstruction Authority delivering many projects since 2017. Services provided include Video Production, Photography Graphic Design, Animation, Illustration and Digital Services to the Department.

The Challenge

The Get Ready Queensland program approached Ravel to develop a concept and product for an interactive web app that would engage children in Queensland to learn about the importance of disaster preparedness, but in a fun and engaging way.

The main demographic for the web app is school aged children, both primary and secondary.

The web app is required to run on a website browser, so it does not have to be installed on a device and would run on a range of devices including computers, tablets, and phones.

The main brief of the purpose of the interactive web app was to engage and empower children to be part of their household’s emergency planning through undertaking a range of virtual disaster preparedness challenges like identifying risks, looking out for neighbours, removing hazards, and packing emergency kits.

Ravel's Solution

The concept developed by the Ravel team was to create an 8-level game. Each level is a completely different gameplay experience, all based around problem solving. In between each game are a series of educational cut scenes, communicating the importance of disaster preparedness.

Each game features a different type of natural disaster and follows one family’s journey of assisting their friends, family and neighbours prepare for oncoming natural disasters.

The game was designed and built by Ravel’s in-house team. The game is built in HTML5, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of browsers and devices. The game is also hosted on Ravel’s servers, and ongoing management and maintenance of the web app is provided by Ravel.

Ravel also produced a series of animated videos to accompany the game, as well as a promotional video for use on social media.
