Green Lid Bins

Character sorting organic waste into recycling bins sustainability themed environmental explainer animation

The Client

The City of Gold Coast council is the local government authority for the Gold Coast region in Queensland, Australia. The council’s role includes delivering a wide range of community programs, facilities and infrastructure, and managing services such as waste and recycling to support a thriving, sustainable city.

The Challenge

The City of Gold Coast approached Ravel to create a series of animated explainer videos to promote the green organics bin program, a new kerbside service that provides most freestanding residential properties with a green lid bin. This initiative aims to divert green organic waste - such as grass clippings, leaves and small branches - away from landfill through fortnightly collection and recycling into compost and mulch. As well as providing information about the program's benefits, the videos aimed to build anticipation and excitement of the green-lid bin’s arrival to Gold Coast residents.

Ravel's Solution

Ravel produced four long-form animated explainer videos featuring a cute, upbeat animation style driven by strong character design and expressive motion. The art direction embraced a vibrant colour palette, soft rounded silhouettes and simplified geometric shape language to create an inviting visual identity. Rhythmic motion design added energy and charm to each scene. The result was a playful, character led animation that captured the excitement of Gold Coast residents eagerly awaiting the arrival of their new green organics bin.
