Unconcious Bias

The Client

The Queensland Department of Education delivers world-class education services for Queenslanders at every stage of their learning and development, from early childhood through to schooling and lifelong learning pathways. Through key portfolios, the Department supports a high-performing education system that empowers students, teachers and school communities across Queensland.

The Challenge

The Department approached Ravel for help developing a new online eLearning program ‘Unconscious Bias’. This involved structuring lesson plans, learning modules, and the production of animated explainer videos to visually summarise each topic. Our team was tasked with designing a distinctive visual style for the program that was both appropriate for the subject matter and could be interpreted by a diverse audience.

Ravel's Solution

Ravel developed a stylised, childlike visual art style, with approachable characters that viewers could distinguish between without specifics to a particular cultural group or race. Through the use of character storytelling, textured motion graphics and an appealing art style, the team was able to build a video explainer series that framed complex and often confronting subjects in a more digestible medium. These videos, along with supporting visual assets, were then integrated into eLearning modules, which Ravel helped design.
