Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority

3D underwater sea turtle swimming through coral reef scene from environmental storytelling animation project

The Client

The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) is Australia’s lead agency responsible for world-leading marine park management of the Great Barrier Reef. Guided by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act, GBRMPA implements collaborative monitoring and research to address threats such as climate change, coastal development, poor water quality and illegal fishing, and to strengthen Reef resilience for future generations.

The Challenge

The Marine Park Authority needs engaging ways to express their work and highlight critical environmental events that affect reef health and public safety, such as coral bleaching. Equally important is communicating the safety risks for tourism and boating activities - including responsible whale watching practices on private watercraft - so communities and visitors understand both ecological impacts and how to protect the Great Barrier Reef.

Ravel's Solution

Assessing Coral Bleaching Events combined live-action production with 3D compositing and virtual environment design, integrating real GBRMPA representatives into immersive CGI reef landscapes through advanced rendering, lighting, tracking and post-production compositing.

Whale Safety was developed as a fully animated production, featuring detailed 3D modelling, character animation, dynamic simulations and stylised environment design to clearly communicate marine safety messaging.
