Future Transport

The Client

The Queensland Government’s Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is responsible for planning, managing and delivering the state’s integrated transport network across road, rail, air and sea. Through strategic transport planning, infrastructure investment and network management, TMR delivers sustainable transport solutions that support connected communities and economic growth.

The Challenge

TMR was in the early stages of a major overhaul of public transport infrastructure across the Sunshine Coast region and needed a clear way to communicate four proposed projects to the public:

  • Direct Sunshine Coast Rail Line
  • Sunshine Coast Public Transport
  • Kawana Motorway
  • Mooloolah River Interchange Upgrade

Animation could provide a flexible storytelling tool for explaining these future transport initiatives. However, the final infrastructure and transportation had not yet been finalised, so Ravel needed to develop adaptable visual concepts and abstract animation sequences that could communicate ideas without depicting a fixed design.

Ravel's Solution

Ravel transformed TMR’s 2D brand graphics and iconography into a stylised, 3D-animated environment. By converting the flat visual language into dimensional assets, the team maintained the brand’s distinctive look while adding depth and movement to the otherwise simple design elements.

This highly stylised design worked to the project’s advantage, conveying complex transport ideas through abstract 3D forms and vibrant colouring. Once finalised, the four main animated explainer videos were adapted into shorter edits and optimised for social media and digital platforms.
