Flood Types

The Client

The City of Gold Coast engaged Ravel to develop an engaging animated video that presents the general public with a clear, high-level overview of the different types of floods residents can experience as part of natural disasters and severe weather events.

The Challenge

The video aims to complement the City’s broader community services and emergency preparedness resources - including City alerts, disaster coordination, Get Ready planning tools, and guidance for during a disaster and disaster recovery - and help people better understand the types of flood risk they might experience, along with their varying levels of likelihood and impact. The video needed to capture this information in a way that was visually engaging and easy to digest.

Ravel's Solution

Ravel created a stylised “diorama” of the Gold Coast using high-end 3D animation. The map's shape is modelled with geographic accuracy, including correct landmark placement, while selected elements such as buildings, rivers and flora are intentionally exaggerated for visual impact. Ravel used bold shape language, custom textures and cinematic tilt-shift camerawork to enhance the miniature aesthetic and deliver a distinctive, visually engaging piece that balances technical precision with creative storytelling.
