Beirut Dreams in Color Documentary

Beirut Dreams in Color (“Outstanding Short Documentary” – News and Documentary Emmy Awards 2023) is a Guardian Documentary that tells the story of the band Mashrou’ Leila and the queer revolution in the middle east. Their gigs were regular sell-out successes until an event at their 2017 Cairo concert changed everything, and ultimately catapulted the band and others into a tragic series of events.

Shot on the Canon C300 in Beirut, New York and San Francisco, director Michael Collins approached RAVEL to colour grade and audio mix the 28min documentary. The film features many low-light scenes that required denoising and polishing.

The film recently had its Australian premiere at Queer Screen’s 30th Mardi Gas Film Festival in Sydney, and is available to stream on Guardian Documentaries (embedded below). We’re thrilled to have been a part of bringing this important story to such a wide audience.
